Tammerkoski Rapids and the story of Tampere Tammerkoski ja kosken kaupunki 3.12.2009 - 31.12.2010
The City of Tampere celebrates its 230th anniversary this year. Vapriikki honours the occasion by opening an exhibition called Tammerkoski Rapids, which tells the story of how the small inland industrial town founded along these rapids turned into a city of high-standard education, creative enterprise, and cultural activities of the highest quality.
The exhibition looks into the city’s history from the viewpoint of its residents, without forgetting the lives of children. The changes in cityscape are presented, with the focus being on a model of Tampere from 1890. In addition, the exhibition addresses what it means to Tampere residents to live in Tampere and touches on Tampere-related phenomena such as the black sausage, local rock music, local politics, and ice hockey.
